What We can do for you

Ranges are under ever-increasing pressure to provide safety, functionality and an environmentally sound site for firearm use. RDS’ goal is to design practical, cost-effective solutions for our clients.
Our range experts work with law enforcement agencies and private landowners to provide solutions for their current or future small arms ranges and training facilities.

Range Evaluations & Safety Analysis

RDS performs comprehensive range evaluations to assist our clients in the management of risks associated with the operation of firearm ranges. These include ballistic, sound, and environmental issues; all of which can result in huge financial and legal liabilities for range owners.  The goal is to identify these risks and provide workable solutions to keep the range in operation far into the foreseeable future. Our evaluations include a site visit by an RDS range expert to engage directly with range owners and training personnel to gain a full understanding of the range operations.  This involves a thorough examination of current range infrastructure, usage, policies and procedures, and training regimen.   For new ranges, RDS evaluates the proposed site to determine the proper placement and orientation of your range and the identification of any risks to its successful construction and operation.  RDS works to address these risks by providing consultation to identify customized workable solutions, such as:  sound mitigation measures, ballistic containment structures, surface danger zone layout, and other measures to increase overall feasibility for a site.  When done early in the process, these site evaluations can save significant amounts of time and money, through efficiency in the planning stage.

Litigation Support

RDS offers expert testimony regarding range facilities and their operations in support of both small arms ranges as well as other concerned parties. Our objective is to work with all interested parties to provide safe and effective solutions for the operation of small arms ranges. Due to our extensive experience in range operations, design and construction, RDS staff provide expert witnesses and case consultation support in legal proceedings associated with shooting range issues in both state and federal courts. RDS is the right company to have on your team when presented with legal issues associated with shooting ranges.

Design

Our expert design team help navigate the process of developing a workable range design that will meet the clients range objectives. After a careful study of the client training needs, RDS typically recommends a phased approach for range construction projects. This helps to maximize budgetary resources on new construction or improvements to existing ranges. Additionally, our in-depth understanding of the entire range construction process ensures adherence to the highest standards of quality and safety.
